FORT LAUDERDALE — MSC Cruises is making a notable entry into the Galveston, Texas market with the launch of the MSC Seascape this month, emphasizing a tailored food experience that resonates with local preferences.
Erin Douglas, MSC’s senior vice president of trade sales, took the stage at the recent CruiseWorld event, sharing insights on how the cruise line is adapting to Texan tastes. "If you’re going into Texas, you have to have ‘blank.’ Texans won’t go without ‘this,’" she recalled, highlighting that interpretations of that ‘blank’ varied widely among Texans.
Douglas mentioned several must-have items, including iconic Texas staples like fizzy Dr. Pepper, ranch dressing, and chips and salsa, which will be available at every bar on the ship. “We did a huge tasting menu for everything that we’re going to offer in Texas,” said Douglas. She assured attendees, “Let me tell you guys, we’re ready for you. The menu is phenomenal: barbecue, biscuits, pecan pie, you name it.”
Addressing the blend of cultures, Northstar Travel Group executive vice president Mary Pat Sullivan inquired about maintaining MSC’s Italian flair. “We’re true to the European style and American comfort,” Douglas affirmed, showcasing the cruise line’s commitment to delivering a diverse culinary experience.
In addition to food, entertainment tailored for the Galveston market is also a priority. The Seascape will feature Texas-themed attractions, including the resident band, The Lone Star, and various opportunities for line dancing. Passengers can also enjoy dueling pianos at the Uptown Bar. Douglas emphasized the importance of sports, stating that the Seascape will be equipped with numerous big-screen TVs for fans to watch college football and NFL games while at sea.
MSC’s Ongoing Expansion in the U.S.
MSC Cruises is rapidly expanding in the U.S., with Galveston departures complementing increased offerings in Port Canaveral, Florida, and plans to extend services to Seattle next summer. “It’s just inevitable,” remarked Douglas. “There’s so much going on at MSC, and we continue to invest in the North American market.”
Additionally, Douglas discussed the successful debut of the MSC World America, the first World-class ship launched in North America, based out of Miami. She highlighted the positive feedback from passengers and travel agents, mentioning a recent cruise with 600 agents who were impressed with the ship’s offerings, including the luxurious Yacht Club and new venue options.
As MSC Cruises gears up for its arrival in Galveston with the MSC Seascape, it’s clear that the cruise line is adapting to local tastes and preferences, ensuring an engaging experience for Texan travelers and beyond.
