TORONTO — At the recent Back to Jamaica FAM event, Sandals Resorts International (SRI) showcased exciting updates not only about its eight Jamaican properties but also about upcoming projects across the Caribbean.
New Developments at Sandals Dunn’s River
Sandals Dunn’s River, the FAM’s host resort, recently opened the Louis Grant Conference Centre on December 15. This standalone facility boasts more than 8,000 square feet of event space and is named after the resort’s first General Manager, who was pivotal to its launch in 1991.
Exciting Plans for Beaches Runaway Bay
Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of SRI, announced that the new Beaches Runaway Bay will be making its debut in late 2026. Set to occupy the location of the former Jewel Runaway Bay Beach Resort & Waterpark, the resort will feature approximately 450 rooms. Stewart emphasized the brand’s commitment to bringing a high level of elegance and quality, offering guests an experience beyond their previous stay at Beaches Ocho Rios.

Transformation of Iconic Resorts
The pause on three of Sandals’ renowned resorts—Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, and Sandals South Coast—will see significant transformations. Set to reopen on May 30, 2026, Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean will undergo extensive renovations, with a US$150 million investment aimed at elevating their offerings. Stewart noted a particular focus on creating an innovative experience at Sandals South Coast, featuring new swimming pools and four new dining concepts.
New Ventures in The Bahamas
In The Bahamas, SRI is hard at work on Beaches Exuma, slated to replace the closed Sandals Emerald Bay. This upcoming resort will strategically utilize the existing layout, focusing on family-friendly amenities. Beaches Exuma will feature multi-bedroom villas and connectable rooms, along with a new Kids Camp and splash deck to enhance the family experience. With a boutique feel, it aims to accommodate fewer than 200 guests, making it a more intimate option on the small island.

Major Investment in Barbados and St. Vincent
Another significant project is the US$600 million investment in Beaches Barbados, spanning 1.2 million square feet and featuring 18 restaurants staffed by over 2,000 employees. Stewart emphasized that this property will redefine the Beaches brand with a unique design and luxurious offerings.
Additionally, Beaches St. Vincent is set to be developed on a 53-acre site, located less than five kilometers from Sandals St. Vincent, further expanding the brand’s footprint in the region.
