Viking Cruises Partners with Highclere Castle to Create Viking Pavilion Events Space
Viking Cruises has announced an exciting collaboration with Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, the iconic filming location of the renowned series “Downton Abbey.” This partnership aims to construct a new events space named the Viking Pavilion, set to replace the existing temporary marquee located on the castle’s picturesque southwest lawn. Viking intends for the new building to seamlessly complement the historic architecture of Highclere Castle.
Having maintained a close relationship with Highclere Castle for over ten years, Viking includes visits to this prestigious landmark in certain cruise itineraries, enhancing the travel experience for their guests. The castle is the residence of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, who have been instrumental in the castle’s preservation and public engagement.
Karine Hagen, Viking’s Executive Vice President of Product, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Viking Pavilion will provide future visitors—including Viking travelers—a beautiful setting for enriching experiences at Highclere while also helping to preserve this iconic landmark.”
Enhanced Visitor Experiences with the Viking Pavilion
The construction of the Viking Pavilion will expand guest access to Highclere Castle, introducing a range of educational offerings. Visitors can look forward to engaging lectures and roundtable discussions led by Lady Carnarvon, alongside other experts, making the pavilion a hub for cultural and historical enlightenment.
Corporate Sponsorship and Commitment to Preservation
While specific financial details of Viking’s commitment to this project have not been disclosed, the cruise line has a strong history as a corporate sponsor of “Downton Abbey”, the acclaimed PBS Masterpiece drama series. Viking has proudly supported PBS since 2011, reinforcing its dedication to cultural initiatives and historic preservation.
With the planned Viking Pavilion, both Viking Cruises and Highclere Castle aim to enhance visitor experiences, attract more travelers, and ensure the iconic landmark remains a cherished site for generations to come.
