The Travel Corporation (TTC) has officially appointed Melissa DaSilva as the Interim CEO of TTC Tour Brands, effective immediately. This strategic leadership change comes as the company prepares for a transition following its upcoming sale.
Leadership Transition at TTC Tour Brands
Melissa DaSilva, who has held the position of President of TTC Tour Brands North America, brings over 30 years of extensive industry experience to her new role. She will take over from Gavin Tollman, the longstanding helm of TTC Tour Brands, who will exit the organization upon completion of the sale later this year.
In her interim role, DaSilva will oversee a diverse portfolio of six prominent brands, including Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, and Contiki.
Support During Transition
Gavin Tollman, who has been integral to the company’s development since its inception, expressed confidence in DaSilva’s capabilities. “Melissa has consistently demonstrated her business acumen and leadership throughout her tenure,” he stated. “Her insightful understanding of our diverse portfolio and strategic vision makes her the perfect choice to navigate this critical phase.”
DaSilva also shared her enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I am excited and honoured to lead TTC Tour Brands through this significant time in our history. The potential ahead for the brands and the talented teams is substantial, and together we will ensure a seamless transition and lay a strong foundation for continued success.”
Upcoming Acquisition by Apollo Funds
The leadership change coincides with the announcement of a definitive agreement between The Travel Corporation and Apollo-managed funds, made on July 16, 2023. This agreement marks the acquisition of TTC, a company known for its remarkable service and innovation in the travel industry for over a century.
Headquartered in Cypress, California, TTC boasts a global workforce spread across six continents, including an office in Toronto. Tollman elaborated on the rationale for the acquisition, stating, “For more than 104 years, our family has built TTC into an industry leader. As we look toward the future, it is time for a new owner with a proven track record who shares our vision and customer-first values.”
He emphasized that the transition will be supported to ensure business continuity and to meet the growing demand for various travel offerings, including touring, river cruising, and adventure travel.
Brands Excluded from Sale
It is important to note that not all TTC brands will be part of the acquisition; notably, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection will continue under the stewardship of the Tollman family.
As the industry anticipates these changes, many are optimistic about the direction TTC Tour Brands will take under Melissa DaSilva’s leadership and the new ownership’s commitment to enhancing service in the travel sector.
