On September 27, TTC Tour Brands, which encompasses several well-known travel companies such as Trafalgar, Contiki, Costsaver, Brendan Vacations, Insight Vacations, and Luxury Gold, announced a pioneering initiative—the launch of an “industry-first” Carbon Fund. This initiative, in partnership with its philanthropic arm, the TreadRight Foundation, aims to bolster TTC’s Climate Action Plan as part of its quest for net-zero emissions.
The Carbon Fund is designed to facilitate the decarbonization of TTC’s operations, funded by brand revenue generated across its various travel offerings. According to a statement by TTC, the fund will strategically invest in sustainable practices including renewable energy initiatives and biofuel usage for its transportation fleet.
As a tangible step towards sustainability, TTC is making its initial investments from the Carbon Fund. Notably, Contiki is collaborating with GoodFuels to utilize HVO biofuel, which is exclusively made from certified waste feedstock, significantly reducing travel emissions by 20% across Europe. Additionally, TTC Tour Brands is transitioning to 100% renewable electricity at multiple properties located in North America, including facilities in California and Florida. This switch is projected to prevent approximately 554 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Nature-Based Solutions and Partnerships
The TreadRight Foundation, committed to promoting environmentally-focused initiatives, is expanding its partnerships to include key projects that address current environmental challenges. One of the newest alliances is with Rainforest Rescue, a nonprofit organization advocating for the conservation of the Daintree Rainforest in Australia, the world’s oldest rainforest. With significant cultural and ecological importance, this partnership aims to combat climate change and restore habitat areas.
In Scotland, the TreadRight Foundation is also supporting Trees for Life, an organization dedicated to rewilding efforts in the Scottish Highlands. This partnership contributes to the Wild Pine project, which encompasses the replanting and management of the Caledonian Forest, expanding its operations for an additional year. Travelers participating in Trafalgar’s Best of Scotland tour can explore the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, a destination that showcases the rewilding of over 10,000 acres and its diverse plant and animal species.

Commitment to Sustainable Travel
TTC Tour Brands is aligning its efforts with the goals set forth by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which emphasizes the need for sustainable investments in tourism to fuel recovery and future growth. The aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions is a cornerstone of the brand’s five-year sustainability strategy, How We Tread Right (HWTR).
